Regulations & Compliance
Adherence to standards and regulations at both the European and national level.
At EZO, we maintain a clear and active focus on understanding and meeting these requirements across all areas of our infrastructure and service delivery.
The United Kingdom, Great Britain and Europe, have implemented frameworks that guide how EV charging infrastructure is deployed and operated. These are designed to ensure safety, interoperability, accessibility, and consumer protection.
Key regulations include:
- The Public Charge Point Regulations 2023:
Ensures that the experience of consumers using public charge points across the United Kingdom is consistent and positive. All Charge Point Operators must comply with updated requirements on payments, network roaming, reliability, customer support, data transparency, and pricing.
- Smart Charge Points Regulations 2021:
These regulations mandate that all new private (domestic and workplace) charge points sold in Great Britain must support smart functionality, which includes interoperability with different electricity suppliers and the ability to manage charging based on grid demands.
- Data and Consumer Protections:
Requires GDPR compliance, transparent pricing information, and accessible payment methods.
- The Open Charge Point Protocol (OCPP):
The OCPP plays a crucial role in enabling interoperability, ensuring that EV chargers and management systems can communicate effectively, regardless of the manufacturer or software provider.
- Electrical, Environmental, and Safety Standards:
Covers site works, charger installation, electrical certification, and adherence to occupational health and safety guidelines.
- Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR):
The AFIR aims to standardise and expand the charging infrastructure across Europe. The regulation mandates that all new and renovated public charging stations must support smart charging and provide clear information on pricing and availability.
EZO’s Approach
EZO takes a structured approach to regulatory alignment. Our operations incorporate compliance processes at multiple stages—from planning and installation to ongoing maintenance and reporting.
Compliance & Standards
EZO embeds regulatory alignment into every stage of operations, from planning and installation to maintenance and reporting. Our charging units meet national electrical codes, open protocol and connector type requirements, and comply with all smart charging and accessibility standards.
Performance, Access & Maintenance
We deliver high network reliability through continuous remote monitoring, real-time diagnostics, and proactive maintenance. Multiple access methods — including contactless payments, RFID, and mobile apps — ensure convenience, accessibility, and consumer protection.
Government & Industry Engagement
We maintain active communication with key authorities and agencies, including the Department for Transport (DfT), Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, OZEV, OPSS, Ofgem, and local authorities, ensuring compliance with evolving regulations and industry best practice.
Upcoming policy changes and public infrastructure strategies.
At EZO we do not consider regulatory compliance a one-off requirement. We view it as an ongoing responsibility that requires monitoring, staff training, and process updates. As the regulatory environment evolves, we will continue to review and update our practices accordingly.
PCPR Data Requests
Openness and transparency sit at the core of everything we do. In line with the UK Public Charge Point Regulations, EZO shares public charging data to support a network that’s smarter, and accessible to everyone.
To request data, simply complete the PCPR Data Request form and our team will review your submission before providing the information.
